Corruption in the education system has been uncovered in Namangan region, according to the State Security Service.
A department head of the regional Preschool and School Education Administration demanded $10,000 from a resident of Turakurgan district to appoint him as director of a school in Namangan city. The official was caught red-handed receiving $8,500 in his office.
It was revealed that the same official had a prior conviction in 2011 for fraud, abuse of power, forgery, and bribery.
In a separate case, an employee of a preschool institution in Namangan city was arrested while receiving $2,000 from an entrepreneur who planned to open two private kindergartens under a public-private partnership. The employee promised to facilitate the necessary contracts through the Davlatabad district education department.
During the operation, a chief specialist of the Davlatabad district education department was also detained while receiving money.
Criminal cases have been initiated in both instances, and investigations are ongoing.
