President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed support for the national football team following their debut match at the FIFA World Cup. The game against Colombia ended in a 1:3 loss for Uzbekistan.
Speaking at a plenary session of the Foreign Investors Council, the head of state stated that the players demonstrated strong character against a very experienced team.
'Our footballers showed strong character in the match against a very experienced team. For us, the first goal at the World Cup is also a victory,' the president said.
Mirziyoyev emphasized the team's dedicated performance and added that even in a difficult match, the players displayed willpower, character, and a desire to fight until the end.
Earlier, Uzbekistan head coach Fabio Cannavaro said he was proud of his players after the match against Colombia. He called the game historic and noted that playing in front of a packed stadium is challenging but provides extra motivation.
