President Shavkat Mirziyoyev shared his thoughts after the Uzbekistan national team's first World Cup match against Colombia, which ended in a 1:3 loss. The video of his statement was released by the presidential press service.

"This is a historic day for Uzbekistan. In a fierce and intense match, our players showed their strong character for the first time at the World Cup against a very experienced team. It wasn't easy; this is the first time in 34 years that what we expected has happened. So it is fair to say they clearly demonstrated strong character, physical fitness, and willpower. Our first goal in the tournament is also a victory," the president said.

The head of state expressed pride in the patriotic and dedicated youth, calling them the true heroes of modern Uzbekistan.

"You have seen that we still have many opportunities ahead. My children, my heroes have shown that they are capable of much. So we only wish them luck. Forward, Uzbekistan!" Mirziyoyev added.

It is worth recalling that the Uzbekistan national football team lost to Colombia 3:1 in the first round of the group stage of the World Cup. Abbosbek Fayzullayev scored Uzbekistan's first-ever World Cup goal.

The Uzbekistan national team will play its next match on June 23 at 10:00 PM Tashkent time against Portugal.
