The State Security Service (SSS) of Uzbekistan has detained three individuals from the Yangikurgan and Turakurgan districts who were allegedly attempting to sell $100,000 in counterfeit US currency.
According to the SSS, the suspects – two men aged 34 and 31 from Yangikurgan district and a 46-year-old from Turakurgan district – planned to sell the fake bills for $40,000 in genuine US dollars. During the operation, authorities seized $80,000 in counterfeit currency and $40,000 in real dollars.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the counterfeit dollars were produced abroad and smuggled into Uzbekistan. A criminal case has been opened, and investigative actions are underway.
The incident highlights ongoing efforts by Uzbek authorities to combat currency counterfeiting. Investigators are working to trace the origin of the fake currency and identify other individuals involved in its smuggling and distribution.
