Law enforcement in Uzbekistan's Samarkand region has thwarted a major drug trafficking attempt. Officers from the State Security Service and the Interior Ministry conducted a special operation, arresting three local residents red-handed during a hashish sale.

In the Urgut district, three individuals aged 17 to 35 attempted to sell 2.8 kilograms of hashish to an undercover buyer for $27,400. They were apprehended at the moment of the transaction.

According to authorities, one of the suspects had a prior criminal record for drug-related offenses.

A criminal case has been opened against the suspects, and an investigation is underway. Under current legislation, such crimes carry a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

Law enforcement agencies urge citizens to report similar offenses via the short number 1520, guaranteeing confidentiality.

Earlier, in the Andijan region, nearly 2.5 kilograms of hashish were seized from drug dealers.
