Uzbekistan has completed a large-scale inspection of auto and gas filling stations across the country. Inspectors examined over 6,200 facilities and identified nearly 47,000 violations. As a result, hundreds of stations have been temporarily closed, while the government prepares new measures to tighten safety requirements.

The sweeping inventory was prompted by a series of incidents at gas stations, including fires, explosions, and gas leaks. During the inspection, 6,200 gas and petrol stations were surveyed nationwide.

A total of 46,700 violations and shortcomings of various types were detected. The largest number of violations — 25,300 cases — were in the area of industrial and technical safety. Nearly 8,000 violations were related to non-compliance with fire safety requirements. In the sphere of technological processes, 7,900 shortcomings were recorded, in construction — 2,200, and in technical regulation — 3,400.

Comparing the total number of violations to the number of inspected facilities, each station averaged more than seven complaints.

Following the inspections, the operation of 464 gas stations was temporarily suspended until all identified deficiencies are fully eliminated.

The authorities do not intend to stop there. According to a government resolution, starting September 1, 2026, Uzbekistan will begin a phased decommissioning of equipment operating under excessive pressure if its service life has expired or if the date of manufacture is unknown. A number of other requirements are also envisaged to address systemic problems identified across the country.
