A road accident involving schoolchildren occurred in the Andijan region during the “Andijan Polka” event, resulting in the death of one child. The incident was reported by a user in the comments under a post by regional governor Shukhrat Abdurakhmanov on Instagram.
According to the user, the accident involved students from School No. 14 in the Asaka district. One student died, and the others were hospitalized in intensive care.
The press service of the Andijan Regional Traffic Safety Department told Daryo.uz that the accident happened on June 23. “The Asaka district education department provided a bus for students heading to prepare for the event in Andijan. However, a group of students arbitrarily traveled in a Damas car. On the way, the car collided with a ZIL truck. The students were hospitalized. Despite doctors' efforts, one of them died. The condition of the other students is good,” the statement said.
The investigative department of the Asaka district police is conducting an inquiry.
On June 24, a record was set at the Andijan stadium for performing the “Andijan Polka” dance. Footage released by the regional administration shows that young children also participated in the event.
