Tashkent, Uzbekistan – AN Podrobno.uz. A representative of Baraka savdo company has claimed that the state system for automatic assignment of sick leave benefits uses the trademark Baraka, which he says belongs to his company. The statement was made during an open dialogue organized by the Confederation of Employers of Uzbekistan.

According to the company representative, the Baraka trademark was registered with the Intellectual Property Agency in 2021 — long before the appearance of the state information system of the same name, which now assigns sick leave payments.

Baraka savdo, a company selling household appliances and furniture, believes that the use of this name in a state digital service may violate its exclusive rights to the registered trademark.

"We have been officially registered in Uzbekistan for five years and have been operating," the company representative noted. During the discussion, participants pointed out that the official name of the enterprise includes the word savdo. In response, the company representative explained that the registered trademark is exactly Baraka, without additional words.

Chairman of the Confederation of Employers of Uzbekistan Davron Vakhabov emphasized that the issue requires legal assessment. "We urgently need to find a lawyer to sort out this issue," he stated.

At the time of publication, no official comments from the developers of the state system or authorized bodies regarding the stated claims have been received.

At the same meeting, representatives of businesses, HR services, and state bodies discussed a number of gaps encountered while working with the new system: why it causes difficulties for employees working in several organizations simultaneously, what happens to payments in IT Park resident companies, and why inspectors still require paper sick leaves.

Recall that since the end of June, a new mechanism for assigning temporary disability benefits has been operating in Uzbekistan. Now payments are processed in a proactive mode through the Baraka social insurance information module — without submitting applications or providing paper certificates. After the electronic sick leave is issued, the system automatically calculates the benefit amount and transfers the funds to the recipient.
