Modern intelligent systems are being deployed at major border checkpoints between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. This is expected to speed up border crossing and make procedures more convenient for people and businesses.
The modernization concerns the Gishtkuprik and Zhibek Zholy posts. Delegations led by Gayrat Nasimov, First Deputy Chairman of the Uzbekistan Customs Committee, and Zhandos Duisimbiev, Chairman of the Kazakhstan State Revenue Committee, inspected the progress of the upgrades.
The Gishtkuprik post has already been transformed into a smart customs complex: automated control systems, modern scanners, risk management mechanisms, and digital technologies have been introduced. This allows faster and more transparent checks of people, vehicles, and cargo, significantly reducing processing time.
Similar changes await the Zhibek Zholy post, which will be modernized using advanced engineering solutions and digital management. The measures aim to boost trade, accelerate transit, and simplify border crossing.
The parties also discussed expanding cooperation between customs services, developing electronic data exchange, and implementing joint digital solutions.
Earlier, Kazakhstan introduced restrictions on the frequency of border crossings for passenger and freight vehicles from neighboring countries.
