President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated that the domestic metallurgy industry lacks informatization and the introduction of artificial intelligence. He also noted high dependence on imports, high production costs, and energy consumption.

According to presidential press secretary Sherzod Asadov, the president held a meeting on bringing ferrous metallurgy to a new level. He emphasized that the industry is a key source of raw materials for economic sectors worth a total of $50 billion: construction, mechanical engineering, energy, and electrical engineering.

To achieve a GDP of $240 billion by 2030, annual growth of at least 8-9% is required. Over the past ten years, the demand for metal products has tripled to 5.5 million tons.

The construction of a nuclear power plant, a beneficiation plant, and a new copper smelter will require about 2.5 million tons of rolled metal. In the next five years, new capacities worth $180 billion will be commissioned, infrastructure projects worth $27 billion will be implemented, and housing will be built for 800,000 families.

By 2030, the annual demand for metal products will exceed 8 million tons. The president instructed officials to make accurate calculations to cover this demand through new capacities.

Earlier, it was reported that Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Uzbek Metallurgical Plant and familiarized himself with the modern process of sheet metal production, which is now controlled from a single console.
