By a presidential decree, Sherzod Khikmatullayevich Khodjaev has been appointed as the Minister of Energy, according to the press service of the head of state.

His candidacy was previously approved by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. Khodjaev replaces Jorabek Mirzamakhmudov, who had been leading the sector since September 2022.

Sherzod Khodjaev began his career in 1998–2001 at the Ministry of Energy and Electrification as a software engineer. From 2004 to 2010, he held various positions at the state joint-stock company Uzbekenergo, serving as deputy director until 2017 and director until 2018.

In 2019–2023, he served as Deputy Minister of Energy, and in 2023 as director of the project office for reforming the electric power industry under the Ministry of Energy. In mid-January 2023, he was dismissed from his post due to the energy crisis in the country.

From 2023 until now, Sherzod Khodjaev has been working as director of the Agency for the Development and Regulation of the Energy Market. The agency was established in October 2023. Despite a 2021 proposal to make the regulator independent of the government and accountable to the president and Oliy Majlis, the body is subordinate to the Cabinet of Ministers.
