Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz. A notorious crime figure, Georgy Sorokin, known in criminal circles as 'Zhora Tashkentsky' and 'Soroka,' has been arrested in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, and extradited to Uzbekistan.

At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of a fake Russian passport, which he had used for years to travel freely across various countries. According to law enforcement, Sorokin, a native of Tashkent born in 1972 and a former master of sports, began his criminal career in 1990 at age 18, receiving his first seven-year prison sentence.

Over the following years, he repeatedly served sentences for crimes in Uzbekistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and other states. His criminal record includes robbery, theft, extortion, as well as illegal arms and drug trafficking.

The reason for his international wanted status was an incident in 2021. Sorokin and his accomplices allegedly threatened, beat, and used violence against the family of a Tashkent resident, forcing him to transfer ownership of two houses worth a total of $350,000 to the criminals.

A criminal case was opened under the article on extortion on an especially large scale. The detainee has now been brought to Tashkent to face criminal charges.
