Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz. Officers from the State Security Service (SSS), together with specialists from the Tashkent-Aero specialized customs complex, have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large batch of synthetic drugs into Uzbekistan. A total of 4.4 kilograms of mephedrone was seized from illegal circulation.

The operation was carried out as part of the "Safe and Healthy Country" preventive campaign.

According to the SSS, the drugs were being brought in by a Kazakh citizen who arrived in Tashkent on a flight from Bangkok via Sharjah. During inspection of his hand luggage, law enforcement officers discovered the synthetic drug hidden in eight packages of various sweets and five plastic containers. The total weight of the seized mephedrone was 4.4 kilograms.

In subsequent operations, a resident of Yangiyul was detained. Investigators believe the Kazakh national was supposed to hand over the drugs to him at a hotel in Tashkent, acting on instructions from an administrator of an online store selling banned substances.

During a personal search, the local resident was also found to be in possession of an air pistol, which was confiscated in accordance with the law.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code. Both suspects have been remanded in custody. Investigative actions are ongoing.
