A court in the Andijan region has sentenced a female driver to 1 year and 6 months of restricted freedom for a traffic accident that injured five people. Despite one passenger suffering severe injuries, the court did not revoke her driver's license.

The accident occurred on May 4 at a regulated intersection on the Andijan-Asaka highway. Driving a Nexia-3, the woman violated traffic rules and collided with a Damas vehicle that was completing its turn. Five passengers in the Damas sustained injuries of varying severity.

According to forensic medical examination, one victim suffered severe bodily harm, another moderate injuries, two sustained light injuries, and one passenger had minor injuries without short-term health impairment.

Damage to the Damas was estimated at 17.49 million soums, and to the Nexia-3 at 17.19 million soums.

In court, the defendant pleaded not guilty, claiming she entered the intersection on a green light and blamed the Damas driver. However, the court reviewed camera footage, expert conclusions, and victim testimonies, concluding that the Nexia driver had violated rules by failing to yield to the vehicle completing its turn.

The court found her guilty under Part 1 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic safety rules causing moderate or severe harm to health). She received 1 year and 6 months of restricted freedom. The court considered that she had no prior convictions, is a woman, works as a driving instructor, and driving is her source of income, thus not revoking her license.

Additionally, the court ordered her to pay 17.49 million soums in material damages to the Damas owner. Victims were informed of their right to seek further compensation through civil proceedings.
