President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on July 27 titled 'On Additional Measures for the Socio-Economic Development of Tashkent City for 2026-2027,' outlining a series of projects aimed at improving the capital's infrastructure, tourism, ecology, and public spaces.
To boost tourist flow, four symbolic gates will be built at the city's main entrances: Rokhat, Bektemir, Erkin, and Uch Qahramon. An international competition for the gate designs was announced in fall 2024, but results were not published within the promised timeframe.
In the Yunusabad district, all buildings and structures in the Sayilgoh area will be renovated according to a 'design code.' Construction and renovation work in areas with cultural heritage sites will be coordinated with the Cultural Heritage Agency.
A concept for the comprehensive reconstruction of the Chorsu market and the Eski Juva complex will be developed, ensuring the preservation of the market's historical appearance, all domes, and mosaic panels, with input from architects, scientists, and cultural heritage experts.
By 2030, 1 trillion soums will be allocated to the Tashkent city administration for the phased creation of gastronomic, tourist, shaded, and 24-hour streets in the capital.
Environmental infrastructure projects include repairing closed drainage systems and collectors, constructing new canals, and building facilities to collect rainwater for irrigating trees and green areas.
On the grounds of the Silk Research Institute in the Shaykhontohur district, an eco-park, recreation area, and thematic multifunctional entertainment venues will be created while preserving unique mulberry trees. Some facilities will later be sold as ready-made businesses via electronic auction.
To improve the capital's ecology, 310 hectares of land will be transferred to the Tashkent State Forestry Enterprise, where 'green belts' and 'green gardens' will be established, with privatization, tree relocation, and construction prohibited.
On the site of the former Republican Oncology Center in the Chilanzar district, a 'Youth Town' will be established, offering dual-education training in high-demand professions, high-tech and service zones, a library, simulation workshops, business offices, a startup studio, and a 'Youth Garden.'
An online map platform featuring city routes and attractions will be developed for free download on mobile phones, integrated with service facilities, and available at bus stops, metro stations, train stations, and airports.
