An 86-year-old woman's apartment in Tashkent's Mirzo-Ulugbek district was transferred to another person under a notarized sale-purchase agreement dated September 25, 2025, authorities have revealed. The discovery came after a video went viral on social media showing the elderly woman complaining that a social worker was locking her in her apartment and leaving her without food and water.

In the video, the woman tearfully claimed that the social worker locked her inside and deprived her of water. The video showed an almost empty refrigerator, and neighbors said they passed food through the window. Initially, the district administration stated that the woman was registered as a lonely elderly citizen, received a pension and financial aid, and that the social worker kept the key for safety reasons.

However, a pre-investigation by the Mirzo-Ulugbek district prosecutor's office revealed the apartment transfer. A criminal case has been opened under Article 168, Part 4, Clause 'a' of Uzbekistan's Criminal Code (fraud on an especially large scale).

Investigators will determine whether the woman was fully aware of her actions and could control them at the time of the transaction, and whether she fell victim to fraud.
