Uzbekistan, Tashkent – Podrobno.uz. Prosecutors have demanded a 15-year prison sentence for former Namangan governor Anvar Otakhodjaev in a corruption case, according to Alibek Meliboev, spokesperson for the Fergana Regional Court, who spoke to Podrobno.uz.

The verdict has not yet been delivered, and the trial is ongoing at the criminal court for Uzbekistan district in Fergana region. Five other individuals are also defendants in the case.

The defendants face charges including embezzlement, fraud, abuse of power, official forgery, bribery, and mediation in bribery.

Otakhodjaev was detained in September 2025. According to investigators, he demanded $60,000 from a businessman in exchange for assistance in obtaining rights to build a multi-story building on a 35-acre plot and financing the project. The former official remains in custody.

Earlier reports indicated that a khokimiyat employee in Syrdarya region was detained while receiving a bribe for assistance in land allocation.
