Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to develop joint projects in agriculture, geological exploration, energy, construction materials production, and transport. This was announced by Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov, commenting on the results of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's state visit to Kyrgyzstan in an interview with Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.
According to the minister, the parties have agreed on a number of projects planned for implementation in Kyrgyzstan. "We have agreed to establish a joint cluster for cattle breeding, and to grow rice and potatoes in Kyrgyzstan. Our entrepreneurs are actively entering the construction materials sector, producing aluminum profiles, polymer products, and construction mixtures," he said.
One of the new areas of cooperation will be geological exploration. Relevant ministries and specialized companies of Uzbekistan plan to carry out work in this area in Kyrgyzstan. "Our companies have gained certain experience in this field. Today, the relevant ministries and specialized companies of Uzbekistan will work on conducting geological exploration in Kyrgyzstan," Kudratov said.
Priority areas also include energy, the implementation of the Kambarata HPP project, and the development of small-scale energy. The parties separately discussed cooperation in the transport sector. According to the head of the Ministry of Investments, the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is ahead of schedule.
In addition, agreements were reached to create more favorable conditions for transit, processing, and customs clearance of goods. Following the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan business forum, documents and agreements were signed for the implementation of projects and trade contracts worth over $1.5 billion.
Kudratov noted that since the beginning of the year, bilateral trade has grown by 45% to $624.6 million. By the end of 2025, trade turnover is expected to grow by 37% compared to 2024 (from $874.7 million) to $1.2 billion.
"We have received clear instructions from our leaders, identified additional product groups and nomenclature, and identified exporters and importers of both countries. Now we will work together to achieve the task of multiplying trade turnover," he said.
The minister called the state visit a historic event that, in his opinion, will open a new stage in Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan relations. Earlier, on July 30, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan signed documents that fully resolve border issues and increase the number of checkpoints from 15 to 30. A decision was also made to open Kyrgyzstan's general consulate in Andijan.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev called the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway a "construction of the century" that will change the geopolitical situation in the region. Following the talks, the presidents signed a treaty on allied relations between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
