Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz reports that customs officers at the Aviagruzy post of the Tashkent-Aero complex have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large batch of counterfeit medicines into Uzbekistan. More than 160,000 packets of antibiotics worth over 7.3 billion soums were seized from circulation.

The customs officers' suspicions were raised by discrepancies in the accompanying documents. The declaration listed India as the country of origin for the Efba infusion solution, and a certificate of conformity issued for the original Indian drug was provided for import clearance. However, during inspection, no data on the manufacturer or country of production was found on the packaging or vials. Only the customer company's name and inscriptions in Chinese were present.

The total weight of the seized batch exceeded 21 tons. According to the Customs Committee, the active ingredient of Efba is an antibiotic, and the distribution of counterfeit drugs of this type poses a serious threat, as their actual composition is unknown, and their use could be ineffective or even dangerous to health.

The entire batch has been confiscated and placed in a temporary storage warehouse. Law enforcement agencies are conducting investigative measures to identify the individuals and organizers behind the supply.
