The Tashkent city ecology department has released the results of an investigation into reports of mass tree cutting in the Shaykhantakhur district. While claims that 400 trees were destroyed have not been confirmed, violations of environmental legislation have been recorded.

The investigation was triggered by social media posts alleging that around 400 trees had been cut down on the plot. According to the city ecology department, only 112 trees are registered in the green.tashkent.uz electronic database for this area. Additionally, it was found that the widely circulated video was actually filmed in late May, while inspectors visited the site on June 1.

The inspection revealed that the entrepreneur purchased the land plot back in 2017, when there were no trees on it. Later, a local resident planted two- and three-year-old fruit and ornamental trees at his own expense. After some time, he organized their felling. According to ecologists, 45 trees were illegally cut down with the involvement of workers, and another 35 young saplings were transplanted to another district, but this was done in violation of current requirements.

For the violations, the man was fined 10.3 million soums. In addition, the damage caused to nature was estimated at nearly 50 million soums.

During another inspection conducted on June 24, inspectors discovered three more illegally cut trees on the territory of Golden Art House. Materials on this fact have been transferred to law enforcement agencies for legal assessment.

The department emphasized that the information about "400 felled trees" circulating online has not been confirmed and urged the public to rely on verified data.

Earlier, ecologists commented on reports of mass tree cutting at the Surkhandarya scientific-experimental station in Denau. It turned out that the green spaces were not cut down — they were toppled by strong winds.
