On August 4, Gazeta reported that residents of the 17th daha in Yunusabad district had been litigating since March 2026 against the Tashkent mayor's decision to build a five-story mahalla center on the site of a courtyard parking lot. The case was reviewed by inter-district and city administrative courts.

On the evening of August 5, a delegation led by Yunusabad district mayor Abrorxoja Saidaliyev arrived at the site. During a meeting with residents, he announced that the construction would not take place.

"The mayor said that the multi-story building would not be built and the land would remain for parking," Antonina Mirzayeva, a resident of building 23, told Gazeta.

"The interests of the residents and their legitimate objections have been fully taken into account," said a statement from the Yunusabad district administration's press service.

During the meeting, residents also raised other issues. One citizen proposed building a football field in the area. Others requested the installation of speed bumps, claiming that traffic along the parking lot is heavy and children and elderly people have been hit by cars. The mayor promised to send specialists for a separate meeting with residents on these proposals.

Ra'no Abdusattorova, the building manager of building 23, also stated that the mahalla committee is not providing assistance to elderly and disabled people.

A court hearing on the residents' complaint regarding the audit is scheduled for August 14.

Earlier, the publication covered a similar case — in the Cholpon mahalla of Yashnabad district, residents had been unsuccessfully fighting in court for over a year against the construction of a mahalla building on the site of a football field. After the article was published, the district mayor met with residents and promised to abandon the project and take their suggestions for improvement into account. Two days later, the pit was filled and the construction fence was dismantled.

In the Lolazor mahalla of Mirobod district, following a visit by Saida Mirziyoyeva, head of the Presidential Administration, the prosecutor's office opened a criminal case against officials of a construction company. They are suspected of falsifying documents and abusing their authority in construction on the sites of children's and sports grounds. The Prosecutor General's Office has been tasked with inspecting similar facilities across the city.
