In 2017, as part of the 'My City' pilot project, officials discussed gentrifying Oqqorgon Street (formerly Novomoskovskaya) by creating pedestrian and cycling infrastructure to boost investment appeal and property values.

Nearly nine years later, cafes, restaurants, and shops have opened along the street, but it has failed to become a comfortable urban space. Instead, a large section of the sidewalk was abruptly demolished in May, leaving debris and dust in its place.

Excavators tore up the pavement near building 21A without any prior notice to residents or local business owners. No temporary walkway was provided, forcing pedestrians to navigate through broken asphalt and rubble.

A reporter's inquiry through the 'People's Control' service received a response in July stating that the issue would be 'positively resolved' by the end of the second quarter of 2027 under a comprehensive improvement program for 2026–2027. Other complainants were told there were no funds for repairs at present.

The street also suffers from rampant illegal parking. Near the Yoshlik Stadium (formerly Start), cars are parked on the sidewalk and even on the zebra crossing, forcing pedestrians to dodge vehicles.

After traffic lights were upgraded at the intersection with Osiyo Street, the pedestrian signal was placed at the back of the sidewalk, making the waiting area look like a parking entrance. A complaint to the Traffic Organization Center went unanswered.

Urban design experts recommend physically separating sidewalks from roadways using bollards, trees, planters, and parklets. According to NACTO, well-designed streets generate higher business revenue as they serve as public spaces and customer magnets.

The Tashkent city administration told Gazeta.uz that the demolished section is being repaired due to electrical cable works and will be restored within weeks. A full street reconstruction is planned for 2026–2027, with designs to be presented to residents.
