Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Podrobno.uz. Malaysia is becoming an increasingly popular destination for tourists from Uzbekistan. In January-June 2026, over 16,000 Uzbeks visited the country, marking a 62% increase compared to the same period last year.

For reference, about 10,000 Uzbeks visited Malaysia in January-June 2025. Thus, the figure grew by more than 6,000 people over the year.

Uzbekistan has also become one of the leaders in growth rates among Central Asian countries. Overall, in the first six months of 2026, Malaysia welcomed over 53,000 tourists from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan, a 23.3% increase year-on-year.

Kazakhstan remains the region's largest market: tourist numbers from there rose by 11.8% to 26,300. The flow from Tajikistan grew by 60.2% to 2,100, and from Kyrgyzstan by 13.7% to about 4,200. Turkmenistan recorded over 4,400 arrivals during this period.

The growing interest is partly attributed to the country's convenience for Muslim travelers. Factors include developed halal infrastructure, a wide selection of halal cuisine, and accessible mosques and prayer facilities.

Another factor is the expansion of air connectivity. Kuala Lumpur is linked by direct flights to Tashkent and Almaty. In July 2026, flight frequency between Tashkent and Kuala Lumpur increased, and additional flights are planned from October.

It is noted that tourists from Central Asia increasingly choose destinations where they can combine urban leisure, culture, gastronomy, beaches, nature, shopping, and entertainment in one trip.

Earlier, it was reported that Tashkent plans to host the Malaysia-Uzbekistan International Halal Fest 2027 forum and exhibition. The festival program may include an exhibition, business forum, B2B meetings, and investment sessions.
