Tashkent, Uzbekistan – The Uzenergoinspektsiya (Energy Inspection) has identified 321 cases of illegal use of electricity and natural gas during August. The total damage is preliminarily estimated at nearly 72 billion soums.

According to the inspection, 19 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were stolen, amounting to 40.7 billion soums in damages. Illegal connections to power grids were found in residential areas, commercial outlets, and industrial facilities.

Additionally, 10 million cubic meters of natural gas were used illegally, causing 31.2 billion soums in losses. These cases were more prevalent in rural regions, where consumers bypassed gas meters.

Furthermore, 340 administrative cases were filed in August for violations of energy consumption rules. Offenders will face fines and other penalties.

Earlier reports indicated that in Tashkent, Namangan, and Navoi regions, illegal electricity usage was detected for operating pumps, elevators, lighting, and commercial facilities, with damages estimated at around 4.5 billion soums.
