President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has sent a congratulatory letter to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, acknowledging her historic achievement as the longest-serving head of government in Italy's history. The president's press service reported this on [date].
In his message, the Uzbek leader praised Meloni's efforts to protect Italy's national interests in the current complex international environment and to enhance the country's standing within the European Union and globally. Mirziyoyev also expressed gratitude to the Italian premier for her friendly attitude towards Uzbekistan and her attention to expanding bilateral cooperation.
The press service noted that the letter emphasizes Uzbekistan's high appreciation of its strategic partnership with Italy. It was stated with satisfaction that political dialogue, trade-economic and investment cooperation, as well as cultural-humanitarian ties, are becoming increasingly substantive, elevating bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.
The two leaders last met in January of this year when Meloni made a stopover in Tashkent. She had previously paid an official visit to Uzbekistan in May 2025.
Giorgia Meloni was sworn in as Prime Minister of Italy on October 22, 2022, becoming the first woman to hold the office in the country's history. She has also led the right-wing Brothers of Italy party since 2014. In a country known for frequent government changes, her cabinet has set a record for the longest continuous tenure.
On her Instagram account, Meloni attributed this stability not to her own efforts but to the cohesive coalition sharing common views. "Over these years, we have worked to increase employment, reduce unemployment, support families and businesses, strengthen security, and restore Italy's prestige internationally. There are results, but we are well aware that much remains to be done," she wrote. Meloni added that this stability exists thanks to the Italians who placed their trust in them in 2022, and that they will continue their work with prudence and a confident outlook.
