Uzbekistan, Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz. Five individuals attempted to secretly smuggle more than 750 grams of gold and jewelry out of Uzbekistan to India by hiding the valuables inside their own bodies. The precious cargo was discovered during passenger screening at Namangan airport. The preliminary value of the seized precious metal exceeds one billion soums.
The special operation was conducted by officers of the State Security Service for Namangan region together with the regional customs administration at Namangan airport. During the inspection of passengers on the "Namangan – Delhi" flight, law enforcement attention was drawn to five residents of Andijan and Fergana regions.
During a special search, it was revealed that the passengers had tried to hide gold bars and jewelry inside their bodies, using them as "living containers". In total, they were found to be carrying precious metal weighing 555 grams and 200 grams of jewelry. According to preliminary calculations, the total value of the seized precious metals is about 1.1 billion soums.
A pre-investigation check is currently underway on this fact. Law enforcement agencies are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
Earlier, another living container with gold was detained upon entry into Uzbekistan.
