TASHKENT, UZBEKISTAN – A 23-year-old woman in the Karmana district of the Navoi region has been sentenced to two years of restricted freedom for torturing her daughter under two years old, local media reported.

The incident occurred on January 19. The woman told the court that the child, who had recently been sent to kindergarten, repeatedly wet her underwear. After a conversation with a relative, the mother decided to break the habit by pressing the girl against the heated part of a stove. The next day, she noticed burns and began treating the injured areas herself.

Law enforcement only learned of the incident on June 11. A forensic medical examination found burns on the child, which were classified as minor bodily injuries. In court, the woman stated she did not intend to cause suffering to her daughter, pleaded guilty, and expressed remorse.

The Karmana district criminal court found her guilty under Article 110 ("Torture"). When imposing the sentence, the court took into account her guilty plea, remorse, young age, and lack of prior convictions. She was sentenced to two years of restricted freedom.

Earlier, it was reported that in Tashkent, a two-year-old boy was placed under temporary guardianship after reports of abuse by his mother.
