On September 24, at the Istiqlol Stadium in Fergana, the Uzbekistan national football team faced Iran in a friendly match, securing a convincing 3:1 victory. The home crowd witnessed an impressive performance by the hosts.

Eldor Shomurodov starred for Uzbekistan, scoring a brace with goals in the 10th and 58th minutes (the second from a penalty). Husayn Norchayev added a third goal in the 90+4th minute. However, Uzbekistan defender Jahongir Orozov, who plays for Rubin Kazan, scored an own goal in the 49th minute.

With this brace, Shomurodov now has 47 goals for the national team, making him the all-time top scorer in its history.

Uzbekistan's next friendly matches are scheduled for October 1 against Syria and October 6 against South Korea. These games will serve as important tests for the team as they continue their preparations.

Earlier, Uzbekistan head coach Fabio Cannavaro revealed that he had tried to arrange a friendly match against Argentina, but plans changed three weeks before the game. The coach also discussed his criteria for player selection and squad renewal.
