On September 25 at 05:05, an emergency shutdown of 1600 MW capacity occurred at a new thermal power plant owned by EDF in the Syrdarya region, according to the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

The plant is a recently built facility and is currently undergoing commissioning works. The emergency shutdown triggered anti-emergency automation, leading to a temporary power supply interruption in certain areas of the country.

The disruptions mainly affected agricultural water pumps and household consumers. Currently, all affected consumers have been reconnected to the grid.

During the restoration process, reserve capacities of energy storage systems and power plants were utilized, after which consumers were reconnected in stages.

Kazakhstan's electricity grid operator KEGOC reported that due to generation loss in Uzbekistan's power system, a power surge occurred from the Central Asian grid, leading to the separation of the North-South transit. The volume of consumer restrictions in Kazakhstan's power system amounted to 962 MW. All restrictions have now been lifted.
