A significant regional leadership change has taken place in Uzbekistan, as Doniyor Bakhtiyorovich Kadirov has been officially appointed as the acting governor, or hokim, of the Sirdaryo region. This shift is part of the ongoing administrative rotation strategy implemented by the country's central authorities to oversee regional development.

The decree regarding this appointment was issued by the head of state, with the announcement publicly shared by the president's press secretary, Sherzod Asadov. The new governor will be tasked with addressing regional socioeconomic challenges and ensuring effective governance across the district.

Prior to this gubernatorial posting, Kadirov held prominent positions within the central administration. Since July 14, 2025, he had been serving as the head of the Department for Public Security and Rule of Law under the Presidential Administration. Furthermore, he spent nearly two years as the presidential advisor on coordinating the activities of law enforcement and regulatory bodies.

Kadirov steps into the regional leadership role to replace Erkinjon Turdimov. The former governor was reassigned last week to a high-ranking national position within the government, where he assumed the responsibilities of the first deputy prime minister and minister of education and science.
