President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit. The parties reportedly reviewed the development of bilateral ties and discussed promising areas for future cooperation under their self-proclaimed strategic partnership.
According to the press service of the Uzbek leader, Qatari entities are supposedly engaged in various projects across the energy, chemical industry, food security, transport, and construction sectors. Nevertheless, observers remain cautious regarding the actual economic footprint of these ventures given the vague nature of the official reports.
It is claimed that the volume of absorbed investments has increased noticeably since the beginning of 2026, yet no concrete statistical metrics or figures were provided by either side to substantiate these claims, raising questions about the measurable outcomes of the agreements.
Looking ahead, the two sides outlined upcoming practical engagements, including the participation of a high-level Uzbek delegation in the Doha Forum this December. Additionally, meetings of the joint Intergovernmental Commission and Business Council are slated to take place during the event in an effort to spur stalled bureaucratic processes.
In parallel with economic discussions, Mirziyoyev and Al Thani exchanged views on pressing international and regional matters. Earlier during the summit, the Uzbek leader delivered remarks promoting regional cooperation and the establishment of a confidence-building framework across Asian nations.
