Law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan have carried out a targeted operation to suppress the illegal trafficking of pharmaceutical products. Officers from the Namangan regional department of the State Security Service, in cooperation with regional customs and internal affairs departments, dismantled a major illicit storage network.
Operational activities revealed that three residents of the city of Namangan had entered into a conspiracy to set up secret storehouses across five residential properties. These locations were allegedly used to accumulate large quantities of foreign-manufactured medicines smuggled into the country bypassing established legal procedures.
Investigations showed that the seized medical preparations lacked any appropriate quality certificates, posing significant risks to public safety. During the searches, authorities formally registered and confiscated 46,865 medication units spanning 287 different types.
Preliminary estimates place the total value of the confiscated pharmaceuticals at approximately 5.2 billion sums. The supplies were allegedly intended for subsequent illegal distribution and sale to the public for illicit financial gain.
Forensic chemical and commodity expert analyses have been ordered regarding the seized medications. Pre-trial investigation procedures are currently underway by the relevant authorities to uncover all aspects of the criminal scheme.
