Construction works are progressing rapidly on a modern bridge across the Karadarya River in Samarkand, designed to connect the city center with the newly developed "Shirin" residential district and the local airport. According to regional projections, once the infrastructure project is completed, the commuting distance will drop dramatically from 23 to just 4 kilometers, cutting travel time by half an hour.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev personally inspected the ongoing construction site during his working visit to the Samarkand region. The leader reportedly emphasized that municipal and regional roads must genuinely serve the public, arguing that efficient logistics systems are essential for saving both time and financial resources.
The bridge is set to become one of the premier infrastructural landmarks in the region, featuring a total length of 780 meters, a width of nearly 30 meters, and a height of 12 meters. Designed with four traffic lanes, the facility is expected to handle a daily capacity of up to 25,000 vehicles. The total cost of the ambitious engineering initiative is estimated at 310 billion soms.
The head of state described the bridge as one of his long-cherished ambitions, noting that the vision has now materialized into reality. The administration also highlighted the broader context of increasing tourist arrivals in Uzbekistan, pointing to the ongoing necessity of modernizing regional transit networks to maintain competitiveness.
