Law enforcement agencies in Tashkent have successfully intercepted an unusual drug trafficking attempt, uncovering illicit substances hidden within an everyday children's item. The operation took place in the Bektemir district during a routine vehicle inspection of a Nexia-3 automobile carrying a female passenger.
The coordinated operation was carried out by the Tashkent region's cybercrime department alongside operatives from Nurafshan, following intelligence gathered via internet monitoring. During the search, officers' attention was drawn to a children's doll that felt suspiciously heavy for a standard toy.
Upon closer inspection of the toy, authorities discovered eight individual packages containing hashish, each weighing between 100 and 150 grams. The total weight of the seized narcotics amounted to approximately one kilogram. According to preliminary investigative findings, a 56-year-old woman had acquired the drugs in the Fergana region with the intention of reselling them in the capital.
The vehicle's driver, operating through the Yandex Taxi service, stated during questioning that he was meeting the passenger for the first time and had no knowledge of the illicit cargo. A criminal case has been officially initiated, and investigators are currently working to trace the origin of the narcotics and identify any potential accomplices.
Authorities have reiterated that drug trafficking in Uzbekistan carries severe legal consequences, with sentences reaching up to 20 years of imprisonment. This incident follows a recent similar case in the Yakkasaray district, where a repeat offender was apprehended while attempting to sell a substantial quantity of hashish.
