The international digital payment service Google Pay has reportedly been launched in Uzbekistan. According to statements by Marcin Krasuski, a representative for Google Cloud's public policy and government relations, the announcement was made during the 'C5+1' format events held in Samarkand. The system allegedly enables users to link bank cards to smartphones for contactless payments in stores and online, though its widespread practical integration remains to be fully evaluated.

Meanwhile, official data indicates a continuous increase in the country's demographic figures. As of October 1, 2026, the permanent population of Uzbekistan has purportedly surpassed 39,535,000 people. According to the National Statistics Committee, this represents an increase of 692,200 people, or 1.8 percent, compared to the same period last year, raising concerns over growing pressure on public infrastructure and resources.

In the capital city of Tashkent, social tensions and infrastructure issues continue to surface. Following the circulation of a video showing a restaurant representative in the Mirobod district treating a courier rudely, local authorities intervened: the perpetrator was sentenced to 5 days of administrative detention, and the pedestrian walkway was allegedly brought into compliance with regulations.

Additionally, Tashkent recently experienced severe air pollution levels exceeding the norm by more than 11 times, posing notable risks to public health. Separately, law enforcement agencies reportedly discovered 7 kilograms of marijuana and a pneumatic weapon inside two containers in the Kibray district, prompting further investigation.
