Kakhramonjon Olimov, a shareholder of Anorbank, has released a statement through the law firm Fedida Associes, purportedly denying allegations of orchestrating a kidnapping and reporting ongoing pressure against himself and his business interests. The businessman claims that the criminal case against him has been completely fabricated.

The controversy allegedly stems from a June 2025 incident in Paris, where Olimov claims he was abducted and held for ransom in a basement near Nice. While French authorities reportedly arrested multiple suspects in connection with that case, subsequent reports emerged in late 2026 claiming Olimov himself was wanted on kidnapping charges. An Interpol red notice briefly appeared in September 2026 before disappearing from public databases weeks later without official commentary.

Amid these turbulent developments, Olimov has submitted his resignation from the Anorbank supervisory board, pending a final shareholder vote. Meanwhile, both the bank's administration and the Central Bank of Uzbekistan insist that the ongoing legal saga has had no adverse impact on the institution's capital adequacy, daily operations, or client commitments.

Observers point out that the high-profile nature of the case introduces significant reputational friction and uncertainty for the financial sector. The outcome largely depends on the unverified conclusions of ongoing investigations across multiple jurisdictions.
