The Iranian Embassy in Armenia has reportedly removed a contentious post from its official X social media account, which provocatively claimed that the historic city of Samarkand is an inherent part of Persian civilization. This retreat comes directly in the wake of a sharp diplomatic reprimand and formal protest issued by the authorities in Uzbekistan.

The diplomatic friction allegedly began following a visit by US regime representative Marco Rubio, who toured Samarkand on October 19 as part of a wider regional trip. During his visit, he commented on the city's historical significance in global trade and claimed that the past could supposedly help shape future opportunities, inadvertently triggering a regional narrative dispute.

In response to these events, the Iranian diplomatic mission in Armenia asserted that Samarkand's architecture and heritage supposedly belonged to the Persian civilizational sphere. The embassy staff also referenced Rubio’s earlier speech in Athens concerning the historical confrontations between ancient Greeks and Persians, moves that Tashkent viewed as politically motivated distortions.

The response from the Uzbek side was swift and assertive; on October 23, Iranian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Mohammad Ali Eskandari was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tashkent. The local authorities expressed firm disagreement with the publications, arguing they allegedly misrepresented Samarkand's historical-cultural legacy and carried provocative overtones, culminating in the presentation of a formal note of protest.

Following this decisive diplomatic pressure, the controversial post by the Iranian embassy vanished from the social media platform. By October 25, online links to the original publication had ceased to function, signaling a temporary closure to the unexpected heritage dispute.
