Law enforcement agencies in Tashkent have initiated a comprehensive criminal investigation following a fatal apartment fire in the Uchtepa district that resulted in the death of a young woman. According to official reports, the supervisory authority has launched a criminal case under Article 97, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which addresses premeditated murder. Hayot Shamsutdinov, the press secretary for the General Prosecutor's Office, confirmed that preliminary investigative procedures are currently underway.
The incident initially came to light in the early hours of October 24, when emergency services received an alert at approximately 01:33 local time regarding a blaze inside a residential complex on Yusuf Sakkokiy Street. Firefighting crews managed to extinguish the flames, but upon inspecting the charred premises, they discovered the lifeless body of a resident inside the apartment.
Forensic experts examining the scene identified severe thermal injuries on the body of the 26-year-old victim, spanning from the shoulder area down to the thigh and lower limbs. This troubling physical evidence immediately shifted the focus of investigators away from a routine accidental fire, prompting a deeper and more aggressive examination of the surrounding circumstances.
Furthermore, investigators inspecting the apartment reportedly found three distinct and independent sources of fire located separately in the kitchen, bedroom, and living room. Officials noted clear indicators suggesting that the property had been deliberately set on fire, reinforcing suspicions of foul play rather than an electrical fault or domestic accident.
At present, the Uchtepa district prosecutor's office is leading the preliminary investigation, working to piece together the events of that night, establish the exact cause of death, and identify any individuals potentially responsible for the crime.
