During the first nine months of 2026, the underground transport system in the capital of Uzbekistan handled a significantly higher volume of commuters. According to official data released by the National Statistics Committee, a total of 225.7 million passengers utilized the metro services between January and September.

This figure represents an increase of nearly 20 million people compared to the same timeframe from the previous year. Analysts note that the overall passenger turnover grew by 9.6 percent, reflecting mounting pressure on the city's public transport network and urban mobility challenges.

Based on the published aggregate figures, the metro system allegedly served an average of 25.1 million passengers each month during the initial three quarters of the year. The year-on-year growth of 20 million implies that roughly 2.2 million more commuters opted for underground transit on a monthly average.

Furthermore, calculations spanning the 273 calendar days of the reporting period indicate a daily average of approximately 827,000 commuters. Observers point out that such high traffic volumes continue to strain existing resources and raise concerns regarding the efficiency of urban transit planning.
