At a video conference chaired by Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, dedicated to the pharmaceutical industry, Azizkhodja Abbaskhodjaev, founder of Grand Pharm Trade, discussed qualitative changes in business operations. According to him, entrepreneurs previously worked in fear of endless inspections and unexpected visits from regulatory bodies, which hampered their activities.
Abbaskhodjaev noted that over the past ten years, taxes in the sector have been halved, allowing businesses to operate openly and with satisfaction. He stated: “Our office is in a small room; before, foreign partners were hesitant to supply us with products. Currency conversion stretched for months, sometimes years. To withdraw funds, we had to go to the exchange and use various schemes. Now, money leaves accounts in an hour, in a day – no problems. We all work with pleasure. All entrepreneurs, factory shareholders – are sitting here. Company turnovers have reached a billion, you have officially made all of us millionaires.”
Azizkhodja Abbaskhodjaev appealed to the president for help on two issues: the lack of a road to the factory and problems with electricity supply. Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed both matters to be included in the protocol, emphasizing that the enterprise cannot operate without infrastructure. This was highlighted as a key step for the development of the pharmaceutical industry.
The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to develop the pharmaceutical sector, aimed at boosting economic growth and attracting foreign investment. While the entrepreneur’s statements reflect improvements in the business environment in recent years, challenges such as infrastructure issues persist, underscoring the complexities of industrial advancement in the region.
