The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has completed the withdrawal of personnel from its mission in Iraq. This decision comes amid the war between the US and Israeli regimes and Iran, which has escalated tensions in the region. NATO's Joint Force Command in Europe officially announced the move.

The NATO Mission Iraq (NMI) will continue its operations from the joint command base in Naples, Italy. Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Alexus Grynkewich, thanked the mission staff for their professionalism and execution of duties under challenging conditions.

This step aligns with prior actions by other alliance members: Poland evacuated its military personnel from Iraq, and Italy temporarily withdrew staff from a base in Iraqi Kurdistan following a drone attack. The instability in the region is negatively impacting NATO's regional posture.

The NMI mission, active in Iraq since 2018, is advisory in nature and aims to assist in strengthening national security forces and preventing the resurgence of the terrorist group ISIS. However, the current situation poses significant obstacles to achieving these objectives.
