The Pakistani government has announced the resumption of military operations in Afghanistan. According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 26, the temporary ceasefire that was in effect during the Ramadan holiday has ended, and expectations for a long-term cessation of hostilities have not been met.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated that military operations will continue until the set objectives are achieved. This marks the largest escalation between the neighboring countries in recent years, with the active phase of the conflict beginning last month and already resulting in significant losses on both sides.
Official Kabul claims that on March 16, an airstrike by Pakistani forces on a rehabilitation center in the Afghan capital killed over 400 people. Islamabad rejects these allegations, asserting that the strikes targeted only military facilities and infrastructure linked to terrorist groups.
Pakistan, in turn, accuses the Afghan administration, controlled by the Taliban movement, of harboring and supporting militants operating on its territory. Kabul denies these claims, insisting that the issue is an internal matter for Pakistan.
The ceasefire, brokered by Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, expired on the night of March 24. Islamabad emphasizes that operations will persist until the Afghan side revises its security policy.
