The Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzhydromet) has announced an increased risk of avalanches in the country's mountainous areas and at altitudes above 2,000 meters above sea level from April 4 to 8. This risk is due to expected precipitation and changes in air temperature.
In the warning issued by Uzhydromet, residents of mountainous regions, vacationers, and drivers traveling in these areas were urged to take precautionary measures. The service advised avoiding locations with high avalanche risk.
This warning follows earlier reports of possible mudflow and flood events in nine regions of Uzbekistan from April 2 to 6 due to anticipated rains. These two warnings together indicate a rising risk of natural disasters in the republic during the spring season.
Experts note that avalanche risks in mountainous areas typically result from precipitation and temperature fluctuations. Uzhydromet's warning aims to alert citizens and minimize damage in hazardous situations.
