Italian police have announced the arrest of a mafia boss wanted for murder at a luxury villa on the Amalfi Coast, ending a manhunt that lasted over a year. In a statement, Italy's Carabinieri military police force stated that Roberto Mazzarella had escaped in January last year when he was due to be arrested on murder charges. The 48-year-old, apprehended in the town of Vietri sul Mare, is considered a powerful figure within the Naples-based Camorra organized crime group and is listed as one of Italy's most dangerous fugitives.

Police reported that Mazzarella was with his wife and two children at the time of his arrest and did not resist. The operation involved several patrol boats positioned off the coast to block escape routes. Footage released by the Carabinieri shows heavily armed officers entering the villa to detain the criminal, highlighting the high-stakes nature of the arrest.

According to the Italian news agency Ansa, Mazzarella was living at the property under a false name. During the raid, police found three luxury watches, approximately €20,000, some false documents, and mobile phones. Last month, police detained 16 people allegedly linked to the Mazzarella clan on charges of cyber fraud, indicating the group's expansion from traditional banknote counterfeiting into modern criminal activities.
