A criminal case has been initiated against an official in the Surkhandarya Region of Uzbekistan for allegedly promising to assist a citizen in purchasing a building through an auction and demanding a $3,000 bribe. According to law enforcement agencies, the employee of the city department for veterinary and livestock development convinced the citizen that the department would soon relocate and that the vacated building and land plot could be acquired with his help, even though the building was not for sale and no auctions were planned.

The official demanded $3,000 for his "service." Law enforcement officers detained him red-handed while he was receiving part of the sum—$2,000 and 12 million Uzbek soums. This incident serves as another example of corruption in the region, highlighting ongoing challenges in Uzbekistan's anti-corruption efforts, which have seen frequent such cases in recent times.

Currently, a criminal case has been opened against him, and an investigation is underway. The case also reflects intensified anti-corruption measures in Surkhandarya, as similar incidents have been reported in other regions of the country, indicating persistent societal and governance issues.

Previously, officers from the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes stopped the activities of two officials in Kashkadarya Region who were allegedly demanding a bribe for registering a state land plot as private property. These events underscore the continuous struggles against corruption and the active role of law enforcement in addressing such crimes in Uzbekistan.
