Bavarian police arrested two suspected spies earlier this month, authorities announced on Thursday. Prosecutors in Munich said the two men, a 45-year-old Latvian and a 43-year-old Ukrainian, were detained during a routine check on the A6 autobahn near Neuendettelsau on April 12.

Their vehicle contained suspicious objects including false identity papers, cameras, a drone, GPS trackers, radios, and multiple mobile phones and SIM cards. The men are suspected of acting on behalf of a group or institution outside Germany and have been charged with espionage activities aimed at sabotage and procurement of false documents. Neither is a resident of Germany and both remain in pre-trial detention.

Frankfurt Airport's new Terminal 3 opened its doors to passengers on Thursday, with the first flight arriving from Shenyang operated by China Southern Airlines. The terminal, which cost €4 billion and took 10 years to build, has a capacity of 19 million passengers per year, expandable to 25 million. 57 airlines will move their operations from Terminal 2, which will be closed for renovation.

Former US President Barack Obama praised German climate activist Luisa Neubauer for her "incredible" work raising awareness of climate change. In a video message for Earth Day, Obama said Neubauer, a participant in the Obama Foundation Leaders program in 2020, is an example of a young person who gives him hope.

At Berlin Brandenburg Airport, a deportee was removed from a flight after disrupting pre-flight preparations. He reportedly activated an emergency slide, forcing all 161 passengers to evacuate. The flight departed for Vienna with a 2.5-hour delay and reduced capacity. Last year, 1,593 deportations were stopped due to various reasons.
