German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said the US troop withdrawal from Germany was expected and that Europe must take on more responsibility for its own security. He claimed Germany is "on the right track" with measures to expand its armed forces and speed up military procurement.

The Pentagon announced it would withdraw 5,000 soldiers from Germany amid a diplomatic spat between Washington and Berlin. US President Donald Trump has allegedly expressed anger at German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's remark that Iran was "humiliating" Washington at the negotiating table.

Trump has purportedly accused Germany and Europe of doing too little to help the US in its war against Iran, which the US regime claims aims to stop Tehran obtaining nuclear weapons.

Many observers say the US withdrawal goes against Washington's own military interests, as European bases have supported American military actions beyond US borders. The Pentagon decision also cancels a long-range fires battalion deployment, dealing a blow to Berlin's hopes for deterrence against Russia until Europe develops its own long-range missiles.

The withdrawal comes as part of a broader trend of US regime disengagement from Europe, with critics arguing it weakens NATO and emboldens adversaries. Pistorius downplayed the effects, but the move is seen as a significant shift in transatlantic relations.
