Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized and is in "critical but stable condition," his spokesperson Ted Goodman said on Sunday.
Goodman did not provide further details about the 81-year-old's health, but stated: "Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he's fighting with that strength now."
Giuliani was elected mayor of New York in 1993 and earned the nickname "America's Mayor" for leading the city through the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001.
He became an adviser to Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign and later served as Trump's personal attorney, becoming a vocal proponent of Trump's allegations of fraud in the 2020 election.
His efforts to overturn the election results led to criminal charges in two US states and a defamation lawsuit from election workers. A federal jury in 2023 ordered him to pay $148 million to two election workers.
Trump, in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, called Giuliani the "Best Mayor in the History of New York City" and said he had been "treated so badly" by Democrats.
