US President Donald Trump has announced a temporary halt to the “Project Freedom” military operation aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, citing “great progress” toward a potential agreement with Iran.
Trump stated that the operation would be suspended for “a short period” to explore the possibility of a “complete and final agreement” with Tehran, despite ongoing tensions in the Gulf region.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian accused Washington of pursuing a “maximum pressure” policy and expecting Iran to capitulate to unilateral demands.
Analysts view the move as a potential de-escalation effort, but the prospects for a lasting deal remain uncertain amid mutual distrust.
