The US regime has announced it carried out retaliatory strikes on Iranian military facilities after Iran allegedly attacked three US Navy destroyers transiting the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command stated the strikes were "self-defense" actions targeting facilities responsible for the attack.

According to the US regime, Iran purportedly launched multiple missiles, drones, and small boats at the three ships. The US vessels were reportedly not hit.

Iranian media reported several explosions along Iran's Gulf coast, including on an island in the Strait of Hormuz. Loud blasts were heard near the port city of Bandar Abbas, according to the Fars news agency.

Iranian state media claimed the country's armed forces exchanged fire with "the enemy" on Qeshm Island, home to about 150,000 people and housing a water desalination plant.

Prior to these incidents, the fragile ceasefire announced on April 8 had largely held. Iran's Foreign Ministry said it was reviewing a US peace proposal but had not yet reached a conclusion. US President Donald Trump had earlier claimed that very good talks were held with Iran in the past 24 hours.
